Lack of funding means African aid flights could be grounded, WFP warns

Brussels, 05/08/2009 (Agence Europe) - The humanitarian air service may have to suspend flights in some countries of Africa because of a dramatic shortage of funds, the World Food Programme (WFP)
has warned.

The WFP, a partner of the European Commission's humanitarian aid office ECHO, announced on 31 July that the UN Humanitarian Air Service (UNHAS) to Chad would run out of funds by 15 August and funding for the UNHAS service in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea would run dry by 30...
