Brussels, 04/08/2009 (Agence Europe) - Long after the rest of Europe, Bavaria has finally published the list of recipients of European agricultural aid (of roughly €1.4 billion per year for the Free State of Bavaria). This information, that has been available on internet since Monday 3 August (http://www.agrar-fischerei-zahlunen.de ), reveals yet again the low level of support the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) provides small farmers. With €4.1 million, the Gropper dairy in Bissingen received the largest amount of aid in Bavaria, closely followed by the Kronach water service (€4 million). Then come Südstärke GmbH (which produces starch and other potato derivatives) which received around €3 million and the Hopfenverwertungsgenossenschaft hops processing cooperative in Wolnzach with €2.2 million, and further water services in Ingolstadt and Landshut (€1.5 million each). The State of Bavaria received €900,000 and the family of the prince of Thurn und Taxis €575,000. Bavarian farmers' leader Gerd Sonnleitner got only €35,914, but even this far outstrips the €12,000 per year the average Bavarian farmer receives. According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, this average farmer nonetheless cultivates 27 hectares. In Bavaria, 127,000 farmers receive CAP aid. (O.J./transl.rt)
