Brussels, 22/07/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 20 July 2009, the European Parliament put the finishing touches to the membership of its committees, most of which will not start working until September. Some committees had already been set up (their members were elected unopposed in Strasbourg on Thursday 16 July - EUROPE No 9944). Below we give details of the committees whose membership was decided on Monday 20 July: Development: chair: Eva Joly (Greens/EFA, France); deputy chairs: Michèle Striffler (EPP, France), Nirj Deva (ECR, UK ), Iva Zanicchi (EPP, Italy), Corina Cretu (S&D, Romania); Budgetary Control: chair: Luigi de Magistris (ALDE, Italy) elected 25 to 3 in a secret ballot; deputy chairs: Bart Staes (Greens/EFA, Belgium), taking the place of Marta Andreasen (EFD-UKIP, UK), former chief accountant at the European Commission who hit the news in 2002 for whistleblowing at the EU (she only received 9 votes but at least 15 were required. Bart Staes' candidacy was proposed by Marta Andreasen on behalf of the EFD Group.
