23/04/2009 (Agence Europe) - Consumer Protection Commissioner Meglena Kuneva has also been given permission by President José Manuel Barroso to take leave from her post with effect from 18 May to campaign for election in June's European elections in Bulgaria. For the three weeks of campaigning, her portfolio will be handled by Cypriot Commissioner Androulla Vassiliou. It has also been decided that the duties of Danuta Hübner, who will temporarily leave the Commission on 17 May (see EUROPE 9886), will be taken by Czech Commissioner Vladimir Spidla. No decision has yet been taken on who will temporarily replace Viviane Reding (head of the Luxembourg Christian Democrat list at the European elections), the spokesman for the Commission said on Thursday.
