An Assembly that people are talking about

A positive sign for the EuroMed Parliamentary Assembly (EMPA) is the fact that a satirical article has been published about it. The fact that it has become an object of satire shows that people are starting to know about it, as has been known since the days of Martial and Juvenal. A few snippets from the document in question: “The working group on EMPA's rules of procedure and financing rules is meeting in Brussels. The majority of parliamentarians are calling for a crucial issue to be added to the agenda: the size of the daily allowance. / MEPs shall table a resolution at the March plenary session to give the European Parliament eternal presidency of EMPA. / EMPA's Economic Affairs Committee has scrapped all its work on the theme of encouraging regional investment. Every parliamentarian reports that the situation in his or her country is exemplary and is the model to be followed by other countries. / The United Arab Emirates are to make a takeover bid for the EIB (European Investment Bank). / In order to meet its duty of neutrality for the future Secretary General of the Union for the Mediterranean, the co-presidents have decided to appoint someone who cannot read or write. / The Arab League has released a sum of 112,000 dollars for the purchase of earphones for Arab EMPA parliamentarians to ensure that their ambassadors can give suggestions for their interventions in debates on a word by word basis. / Egypt and Spain shall combine their efforts to ensure the fair allocation of positions and seats on joint structures: half for Egypt and half for Spain. / Algeria is to announce that it will no longer be a member of the Union for the Mediterranean but wants the other countries to insist that it accepts the post of Secretary General.” This selection is a mere inkling of the abundant witticisms in the full document.
