Brussels, 03/03/2009 (Agence Europe) - At the meeting of the Special Agricultural Committee on Monday 2 March, a qualified majority of member states supported the proposal to bring the wines sector into the single common organisation of the market (CMO). The next Agriculture Council, on 23 March, is expected to pass this regulation with no problems. In order to simplify matters, all sectors are being gradually brought under the 2007 regulation on the single CMO. The main parts of the CMO in wine, however, were not incorporated within the single CMO regulation because the CMO in wine was to be reformed at the time when the single CMO regulation was proposed. The opinion of the European Parliament, backing the incorporation of the wine sector in the rules on the single organisation of agricultural markets, was given on 20 November 2008 (see EUROPE 9788).
