Brussels, 05/02/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 4 February, French Centre party Mouvement Démocratique (MoDem) began the selection of its candidates for the European election of June 2009. Top of the list in the East constituency is former journalist Jean-François Kahn, who announced his intention to stand in July of last year. In the South-West constituency, Robert Rochefort, Director General of Credoc (Centre de recherché pour l'étude et l'observation des conditions de vie) heads the list. Sylvie Goulard, leader of the Mouvement européen France and former adviser to Romano Prodi when he was President of the European Commission, will lead the MoDem list in the West. Other heads of list are outgoing MEP Marielle de Sarnez (Ile-de-France), Corinne Lepage, Chairwoman of the environmental movement Cop 21 (North-West) and outgoing MEP Jean-Luc Bennahmias (South-East). It will be for party members to confirm these selections in an internet vote running from Wednesday to Saturday evening of this week. A national MoDem conference will take place in Paris on Sunday, Jean-Marie Vanlerenberghe, head of the working group on electoral preparation told Agence France Press (AFP). (E.M./transl.rt)
