Persecution of Shirin Ebadi illustrates worsening of human rights situation in Iran

Strasbourg, 16/01/2009 (Agence Europe) - On Thursday 15 January, the European Parliament adopted a resolution strongly condemning the repression, persecution and threats against Shirin Ebadi, Iranian lawyer and 2003 Nobel Peace laureate, as well as the closure of the Centre for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) in Teheran, led by Ms Ebadi. The CDHR was closed by the Iranian police on 21 December 2008, two days after Ms Ebadi's office had been searched and documents and computers removed....
