New Austrian government remains divided over question of compulsory referendum for changes in EU Treaty

Brussels, 25/11/2008 (Agence Europe) - After eight weeks of negotiation, the People's Party (ÖVP) and the Social Democrat Party (SPÖ) reached an agreement, on 23 November, on renewing the Austrian “major coalition” under the leadership of the new chancellor, Werner Faymann (SPÖ), who takes over from Alfred Gusenbauer.
