25/11/2008 (Agence Europe) - After a two-month hiatus as a result of the Russo-Georgian conflict, talks on Russia's accession to the WTO resumed in Geneva on 24-25 November, but did not bring “any great breakthrough”, according to a source close to the matter. Three political issues, including the timber export taxes and agriculture subsidies, and some 20 minor issues have yet to be settled. Discussions at WTO headquarters are due to start again at the end of January. So far, Russia has completed its bilateral negotiations with 60 countries (not Georgia and the EU) but without full agreement on the multilateral character of the trade rules to which it will be subject.
