Brussels, 20/10/2008 (Agence Europe) - On Monday 20 October, the EU formally adopted, without debate, the directive on minimum training for seafarers. This recasting of Directive 2001/25/EC is in order to incorporate the necessary amendments for the adjustment to the regularity procedure with scrutiny. The European Parliament gave its opinion in first reading on the text adopting 5 amendments to the Commission proposal. The result of this vote reflects the compromise agreement between the institutions. The directive will enter into force on the 20th day after publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
