04/07/2008 (Agence Europe) - During the ceremony organised in honour of the president of the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pöttering, on Wednesday 2 July in the house of Jean Monnet in Houjarray (France), Paul Collowald, former journalist and director general of the European Parliament, recalled the importance that Pierre Pflimlin gave to the expression “European Community” chosen intentionally by the founding fathers. The former president of the Council of France and president of the European Parliament was also very keen on passing on the European fibre to the young - hence Paul Collowald's idea of launching an event in 2009 or 2010 to bring together youth groups from the 27 capitals in the houses of the founding fathers of Europe in Scy-Chazelles (Schuman), Houjarray (Monnet) and Rhöndorf (Adenauer) to celebrate a “real springtime of Europe”. This idea, allowing a little lustre to be added to the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Schuman Declaration, could gain ground within the network of the houses of Europe. (O.J./transl.jl)
