30/06/2008 (Agence Europe) - The EU and the United States signed, on Monday 30 June, a cooperation agreement in the field of civil aviation security regulation. The agreement, which was negotiated by the European Commission on the basis of the Council mandate of March 2004, establishes mutual acceptance of technical certificates of conformity issued by the aeronautics authorities as well as by EU and US technical agents. It also guarantees cooperation and harmonisation of procedures concerning approval of certificates relating to navigability, surveillance of aeronautics products, environmental testing of products and maintenance installations (see EUROPE 9538). The agreement will be signed by Antonio Tajani, European Commissioner for Transport, and Mirco Komac, Director General of the Slovenian Transport Ministry's civil aviation department representing the Slovenian EU Presidency, as well as Robert A. Sturgell, Administrator with the US Federal Aviation Administration. (A.By./transl.jl)
