On Wednesday 4 June, the European Commission approved assistance of €84.1 million for the construction of a new Polish airport at Lublin Œwidnik. The new airport will help to link the isolated Lublin region with the rest of Europe. The aid approved also includes specific measures to be taken by the airport authorities to protect the spotted suslik, an extremely rare species of squirrel.
