Brussels, 22/05/2008 (Agence Europe) - The adoption on Wednesday 21 May in Strasbourg of the report by Gábor Harangozó (PES, Hungary), means that the European Parliament has approved, in a first reading (codecision procedure), the compromise with the Council on revising rules on surveys establishing statistics on agricultural undertakings. Member states will therefore be able to have more room for manoeuvre and Community financial control for carrying out these surveys, while the prerogative of MEPs will be maintained on inspections of delegated acts and adopted in this context.
On the condition of certain modifications, Parliament will give its approval to the European Commission proposal on the next general census of farms in 2009/12 and the intermediate polls between 2013-16. (L.C.)
