EU Foreign Ministers take firmer line

Brussels, 25/04/2008 (Agence Europe) - As international pressure mounts to have the full results of Zimbabwe's elections on 29 March published, EU Foreign Ministers are expected to take a firmer line when they meet in Luxemburg on 29 April. Unless there is a sudden change in the situation, the EU will say that it finds it “unacceptable and unjustifiable” that, a month after voting, the results of the presidential election have still not been published, and will call for their immediate release and for them to be a genuine reflection of the free and democratic will of the Zimbabwean people. The Southern African Development Community (SADC) will be asked to engage “with renewed determination” with the Zimbabwean authorities to implement the outcome of the Lusaka Summit. (A.N.)
