09/01/2008 (Agence Europe) - One fifth of asylum seekers in Poland, mainly Chechens, have left the country following the enlargement of the Schengen area, the PAP agency reported on 9 January. Most have tried to move to countries further to the west of the EU (see EUROPE 9572). According to Polish bureau for foreigners estimates, somewhere between 10% and 20% of those seeking refugee status (approximately 900 people) have left reception centres since 21 December.
