28/08/2007 (Agence Europe) - The Commission has not been in any contact with European companies on the “black list” of firms that the US Department of State believe have a link with companies supporting terrorism. On 28 June “the policeman of US the stock exchange”, the SEC or Security and Exchange Commission, which in the US is the federal regulatory and control body for the financial markets, published this list on its internet site. A number of influential European companies originating from Europe were included on the list. A spokesperson for the Commission informed EUROPE that, “the Commission has no position on the issue, we don not know what the consequences of being on those lists are; no, we are not working with the US on the issue. Probably if this was a real problem, a company would have asked us to do something”. (bc)
