- Germany: The German government has given the go-ahead to privatisation of the country's last great publicly-owned monopoly, DEUTSCHE BAHN (profits of €1.7 billion in 2006, 230,000 employed), by approving the bill allowing privatisation of up to 49.9% of the share capital. Neither the timetable for privatisation nor the procedure selected have been disclosed, but Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee is counting on selling off 25% to private investors at the end of 2008.
