NEEBOR conference on better European integration, with Danuta Hübner

Brussels, 25/07/2007 (Agence Europe) - The second annual conference of the Network of Eastern External Border Regions (NEEBOR, currently composed of 41 regions) will be held in Olsztyn, Poland, on 6 and 7 September. The title of the conference will be “NEEBOR regions towards better European integration”. Jointly organised by the Committee of the Regions (CoR), the Regional Office of the Warminsko-Mazurskie Voivodeship and the International Visegrad Fund, the conference will provide an opportunity for discussion and reflection on interregional cooperation, healthcare services and transport policy. Participants will look in detail at the possibilities of regional development during the period 2007-2013, with special focus on the Interreg IVC programme and the transport networks. European Commissioner for Regional Policy Danuta Hübner, Polish Foreign Minister Anna Fotyga, Polish Regional Development Minister Grazyna Gesicka and Polish Transport Minister Jerzy Polaczek will take the floor at the session on a “European and national framework for regional development and cross-border cooperation”.

During this conference, experts will present the best examples of crossborder cooperation, namely: (1) Finland-Russia: best achievements and future prospects for Euroregion Karelia; (2) Slovakia-Ukraine: projects that link these two countries for small-scale transport infrastructure; (3) Kaainu: experience of self-governance and rural development.
