Brussels, 16/05/2007 (Agence Europe) - In order to remedy the great disparity in national data on use of the radio spectrum, the European Commission has just adopted a decision on the common use by the Member States of the ERO Frequency Information System (EFIS), which was developed by the European Radiocommunication Office (ERO). The decision specifies the format and level of detail of data to be provided by the Member States. In this way, a European database will be created, allowing for people to get hold of comparable information.
In so doing, the European Commission hopes to favour investments and facilitate the allocation of frequency. “Public access to comparable and accurate information on spectrum use is yet another example of how we are improving our (…) policy so that the wireless sector can further grow and flourish”, said the Commissioner with responsibility for Telecommunications, Viviane Reding. “This decision (…) will ease the development of radio-based services and applications, and ultimately benefit not only the sector that all citizens”, she added.
