Brussels, 25/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - The championing of Segolene Royal for the second round of the French presidential elections by the vice president of the European Commission, Margot Wallstrom, is wholly unacceptable and questions the Commission's impartiality and the independence of members of the Commission, said the head of the EPP-ED group at the European Parliament, Joseph Daul, on Wednesday. He has written to Jose Manuel Barroso to complain. The president of the EPP, Wilfried Martens, said that rather than using public resources to express political preferences, the communications commissioner would do better to deal with the 'mess' she herself created with Europe by Satellite (EbS). After eight years at the Commission, he writes in a press release, maybe the time has come for her to go home. In a 23 April blog on the Europa website, Wallstrom writes that she hopes Segolene Royal will win the elections on 6 May. (hb)
