20/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 16 April, the EU Council of Ministers adopted the regulation imposing a definitive anti-dumping duty in the form of a minimum price on imports of certain frozen strawberries originating in the People's Republic of China (see EUROPE 9388). This duty will come into effect from 19 April 2007. Having imposed a provisional anti-dumping duty of 34.2% on imports of fresh and frozen Chinese strawberries, with effect from 19 October 2006, the Commission proposed that member states impose a permanent minimum import price of around €685 per tonne. Chinese strawberries sold in the EU cannot, therefore, be sold for less, otherwise the Chinese operators will have to pay a tax corresponding to the difference between the real price and the minimum import price. The regulation also removes the provisional duty put in place in October 2006 to protect European, mainly Polish, strawberry producers from cheap imported Chinese strawberries. (lc)
