“Stop trafficking camp 07 - boosting the social dimension” prepares recommendations for ESPCO council end of May

Brussels, 19/04/2007 (Agence Europe) - On 30-31 May in Brussels at the “Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumers Council”, the Danish minister of social affairs, Ms Eva Kjer Hansen, will present EU employment and social affairs ministers with recommendations on the social aspects of human trafficking. These recommendations were drawn up by participants at a camp organised by Kjer Hansen on 18-20 April in Copenhagen, on the theme “Stop Trafficking Camp 07 - Boosting the Social Dimension”. Recommendations will then be sent to the German and Portuguese presidencies of the EU and the European Commission.

The aim of the camp was to identify the most serious problems, and find solutions, by focusing on the social aspects of human trafficking at a European level. Camp participants included EU member states, NGOs and experts in the field. Participants shared information and exchanged national experiences on the subject, with a view to identifying ways of taking action at a European level. The camp also aimed at implementing concrete instruments for continuing and intensifying European cooperation. For further information on of Eva Kjer Hansen's proposal on the fight against human trafficking see EUROPE 9323. (gb)
