The Swiss group Nestlé has bought the world leader in baby food, Gerber, from its compatriot, Novartis. Gerber, which employs 4,550 people, achieved a turnover of $1.8 billion last year. The transaction was worth $5.5 billion, and allows Nestlé to move up from third place to first in the world of child nutrition.
