01/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - Turkey's chief negotiator for membership negotiations with the European Union, Ali Babacan - who was in Brussels on Thursday where a meeting was scheduled for that evening with Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn - said that the Turkish government would present a detailed programme “end of March, early April” setting out the different legislative measures that Turkey plans to take in coming months and years to prepare for EU membership. The 600-page document will be accompanied by a timetable, said Mr Babacan, stressing that his country's accession process “must continue” as planned despite the EU's decision to suspend talks on eight chapters because of Ankara's refusal to implement the protocol on extending the EU/Turkey customs union to the new member states, including Cyprus.
