Brussels, 01/03/2007 (Agence Europe) - Russia recently pointed out that it would be willing, but only from 12 March on, to reactivate discussion with the EU with a view to possibly lifting the embargo that it imposes on Polish foodstuffs. The results of the inspections carried out by Moscow in Poland (from 12 to 16 February this year) will be made known at this date, Russian veterinary services say. Furthermore, the latter have announced that inspectors sent to about twelve EU member states are to be repatriated. Sergei Dankvert, who heads the Russian veterinary services, no longer sees any reason, except in the case of an act of God, to permanently keep inspectors there given the “guarantees provided by the EU”. Russian veterinarians were able to note that European “philosophy” is to completely open the door for exports but to restrict access for the entry of imports. (lc)
