05/02/2007 (Agence Europe) - In a communication adopted on Monday 5 February, the European Commission plans to review the parameters for calculating the capacity of EU fishing fleets. The tonnage of vessels is considered a good indicator, unlike the engine power of a fishing vessel. The Commission plans to assess whether it would be possible to take account of gear characteristics (in particular the soak time of the gear). (lc)
