Levi, 03/10/2006 (Agence Europe) - During their informal meeting, in Levi on Tuesday 3 October, EU defence ministers agreed a small technical contact mission should be sent to Lebanon. The small technical team is expected to be on the ground very rapidly in order to assess the security needs of the country with the Lebanese authorities. Upon return, it will issue a report. This will be followed up by an EU fact-finding mission responsible for analysing the various practicable solutions for a potential European contribution to reform of the Lebanese security sector. During a meeting with the EU High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, the Lebanese Prime Minister, Fouad Siniora, expressed his wish for European support, which is essential if the EU is to reach a decision on this.
