04/07/2006 (Agence Europe) - In a press release, the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network (EMHRN) and the Interchurch related Development Organisation (ICCO) express their deep concern at the escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Attacks on civilians, Israeli and Palestinian, cannot be justified, they say. Neither can the destruction of infrastructure funded by the EU and by Member States. The two organisations say that the EU and EU Member States should hold those who do not respect international law accountable for their actions. They call on the Israeli government to release the Hamas prisoners or bring them to trial, on the Palestinian Authority to take all possible measures to prevent attacks on Israeli population centres, and on the EU to demand reimbursement from Israel for all costs incurred in the provision of humanitarian relief deliveries caused by restrictions illegally imposed by Israeli military authorities.
