31/05/2006 (Agence Europe) - Estonia supports the idea of negotiating a new, more ambitious agreement between the EU and Russia to replace the current Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA) that is due to expire in 2007, and it is even in favour of establishing an EU/Russia free trade zone, Estonia's Prime Minister Andrus Ansip said on Tuesday when speaking to a small group of journalists in Brussels. Estonia hopes to secure good relations with all its neighbours, including Russia, and has nothing to fear from a free trade area because its economy is very liberal and competitive, he said. Since accession to the EU, trade with Russia has increased considerably, Mr Ansip said, also calling on Moscow to ratify the border agreement (already signed) with his country. “We have no territorial claims” on Russia, he stressed.
