Brussels, 24/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - On Tuesday, the EU25 finance ministers warmly welcomed the French memorandum about EU energy policy unveiled by French finance minister Thierry Breton. Other ministers briefly intervened during his presentation but the EU's energy policy, seen as important by ordinary people (see other article) will be debated at the Spring European Council (see EUROPE 9115). Welcoming the French document, the United Kingdom said three areas had to be considered in future debate, namely completing the internal market, ensuring a reliable and transparent regulatory framework in the Member States, and using market mechanisms to promote clean energy. Poland said the EU had to find new energy 'solutions' and encourage diversification of energy resources.
