Colloquium on re-launch of Citizens' Europe, with Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, Joaquim Almunia, Anna Diamantopoulou and Maria Joao Rodrigues

Brussels, 12/01/2006 (Agence Europe) - On the initiative of the European Progressive Left (EPL), over the course of the last few weeks, seven European think tanks have been preparing a joint document gathering their proposals for the re-launch of Citizens' Europe. This document will be presented and debated on Saturday 14 January at a colloquium in the European Parliament in Brussels on the theme, “Re-launching Citizens' Europe - For an initiative of the European Progressive Left”. At the opening of the day, the document will be presented by EPL President Bruno Liebhaberg to Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, President of the Party of European Socialists, MEP. The seven think tanks involved are the European Progressive Left, A gauche en Europe (France), Italiani Europei (Italy), Fundacion Alternativas (Spain), Policy Network (United Kingdom), Istame (Greece) and Demos (Hungary). Among those taking part in the colloquium are European Economic and Monetary Affairs Commissioner Joaquim Almunia, MEP, former Prime Minister of Italy and President of Democrats of the Left, Massimo d'Alema, French MP and former Economy Minister, Daniel Strauss-Kahn, Greek MP and former Social Affairs Commissioner, Anna Diamantopoulou, special adviser to the European Commission for the Lisbon Strategy, Maria Joao Rodrigues, Hungarian Minister of Youth, Family, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Kinga Göncz, and Minister-President of the Brussels Region, Charles Picqué.
