ECONOMIC INTERPENETRATION / (eu) privatisation

- Nigeria: ORASCOM TELECOM of Egypt has won the bidding (USD 256.5 mil) for a 51% stake in the Nigerian state telecommunications company NITEL. Nigerian company NEWTEL offered USD 154.9 mil. ORASCOM's bid was below the government's reserve price so the offer will now be referred to the Nigerian privatisation council, which will take the final decision.
