Luxembourg, 05/10/2005 (Agence Europe) - In response to the catastrophic floods that hit Romania during the summer of 2005 the European Investment Bank (EIB) is considering establishing an emergency programme of up to EUR 600 million for the financing of necessary repairs and upgrading of Romania's damaged road and rail infrastructure. During the floods which started in April/May 2005 infrastructure in some areas in Banat was affected. The July floods hit Oltenia, whereas Moldova was hit by floods events have started to affect the capital, Bucharest. The envisaged emergency facility will be address road reconstruction and rail rehabilitation, including repairing bridges, river beds, embankments and feeder roads.
