29/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - In a press release dated 28 July, the European Commission welcomes the decision by the Romanian government to take in Uzbek refugees in the context of the emergency evacuation conducted under the auspices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. It praises Romania for its “humanitarian gesture” of providing a temporary place of stay for these persons pending their longer term establishment in other countries.
