Brussels, 29/07/2005 (Agence Europe) - The office of the EU High Representative for CFSP, Javier Solana, expressed its concern to the Belarus ambassador on Thursday following arrests in recent days of representatives of the big Polish community in Belarus (see EUROPE 9000). The President of the EPP-ED group at the European Parliament, Hans-Gert Pottering, also condemned the arrests: 'These repressions continue to flout the basic principles of democracy, human rights and the rule of law, which Belarus is a party to through its membership of the United Nations and the OSCE.' Poland has recalled its ambassador in Minsk to Warsaw for consultations.
