Brussels, 25/05/2005 (Agence Europe) - In a meeting chaired by Marie-Josee Jacobs, the EU's youth ministers unanimously adopted three resolutions, on appropriate consulting of young people on areas of concern to them; on the implementation of the goal of increasing young people's involvement in representative democracy (through participation in elections, joining political parties and youth organisations). Marie-Josee Jacobs explained that the resolution highlighted factors that either encourage or discourage young people's involvement; and on the common objective of improving young people's access to information. The Council also wants greater networking of youth information in Europe through national and local youth information structures working in a network and through the development of tools for ensuring high quality in professional services in the area.
The Council exchanged views on the European Employment Guidelines and the European Youth Pact adopted at the March European Summit which are now a part of the revised Lisbon Strategy. The Member States explained how they were planning to get young people involved in the Lisbon Strategy and how European youth ministers are planning to intervene in the actual implementation of the revised Lisbon Strategy in their home countries, explained Marie-Josee Jacobs. Jan Figel announce the publication next month of a special communication on young people and pointed out that an AEGEE Autumn Agora (Etats generaux de la jeunesse) would be held in the autumn.
