THE DAY IN POLITICS / (eu) eu/united kingdom

06/04/2005 (Agence Europe) - It has been confirmed: the general elections in the UK will be held on 5 May, and not in 2006, as expected a few weeks ago. The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, has put an end to the uncertainty over recent days by calling on Queen Elizabeth, on Tuesday, to dissolve the parliament. If Labour wins (largely expected), this will be Tony Blair's third mandate.
