14/03/2005 (Agence Europe) - The Alternative World Water Forum (FAME), which meets in Geneva from 17 to 20 March, will adopt action plans for the creation of a world public water service. Work will be opened by former Portuguese President Mario Soares and Danièle Mitterrand, the president of the Fondation France Libertés. A debate chaired by national adviser Carlo Sommaruga will allow local and national representatives from the world over to discuss means of “promoting people's right to water”, states a press release. In the same press release, Alberto Velasco, president of the Swiss organisation committee of FAME II, stresses the need for all human beings to have access to drinking water, and calls for “a democratic, fair and sustainable management of water”. The first FAME Forum took place in Florence in March 2003. (Information: http://www.fame2005.org ).
