Brussels, 18/01/2005 (Agence Europe) - Interpol calls on the Luxembourg Presidency to help it find European experts for Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) and to collect the EUR 2 million needed so that its team in South East Asia can remain there. The International Criminal Police Organisation, Interpol, contacted the Luxembourg Minister of Justice, Luc Frieden, after the latter had called for European coordination in identification of victims (EUROPE of 7 January, p.8). It will “formally ask the Luxembourg Presidency of the EU to make the identification of DVI experts within the European Union who would be ready, able and willing to travel to Thailand, Sri Lanka and Indonesia one of its highest short term priorities for the European Union”, Interpol Spokesman Michael Rose said. These experts will be needed for identifying victims, he explained.
