Brussels, 08/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - According to the Financial Times, the British government is expected to approve on Wednesday, the draft law containing the question to be posed to British voters during the referendum in the European Constitution (taking place in Spring 2006). The question, according to the newspaper, is expected to be simple "Should the United Kingdom approve the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe". The newspaper says that this formula is a victory for the Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, who has opposed the attempts to provide the question with more detail. Peter Hain for example, leader of the House of Commons and a former very active member of the "Convention" would have liked the Constitution to have been approved by the British parliament in the meantime. The FT explains that the draft law will be published next year.
