08/12/2004 (Agence Europe) - On behalf of the EU, the Dutch Presidency has welcomed the adoption by the Ukrainian parliament on Wednesday of changes to electoral law, including the composition of the central electoral commission and an amendment to the Constitution to allow the transfer of certain powers from the President to the Parliament. The Dutch Presidency of the EU noted that the adoption of this package of measures, to which the President of Ukraine, the President of the Parliament and Members of the Ukrainian Parliament had made a positive contribution, is a very constructive step towards resolution of the current political crisis in the Ukraine. The EU, together with its international partners, is ready to continue its assistance to the Ukraine in order to ensure the new round of the elections is free and fair.
