Brussels, 16/11/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Culture/Audiovisuals Council on Tuesday allowed the ministers to hold an informal discussion of the content of the future Culture 2007 and Media 2007 action programmes. Broad consensus was reached on the objectives these programmes should aim at, to guarantee the mobility of artists and cultural goods (Culture 2007) and support the audiovisuals industry (Media 2007). Commissioner Reding was particularly pleased with the support for her proposal of "positive discrimination" in the Media 2007 programme, which provides for a mechanism of solidarity between the Member States, which will be an efficient help to national audiovisual production and will assist those which do not have this capacity. Viviane Reding also expressed her pleasure at the Council's unanimous decisions of authorising the Commission to represent the EU in talks to take place at Unesco on a Charter to protect cultural diversity. EUROPE will come back to this.
