28/10/2004 (Agence Europe) - The Commissioner outgoing for trade, Pascal Lamy, received the Chilean Cross of the Order of Merit for "his remarkable career and role in negotiations leading to the signature of the EU/Chile association agreement", according to an announcement from the Chilean mission to the EU. The Chilean Order of Merit was created in 1817 by Bernardo O'Higgins, "liberator of Chile".
