Brussels, 11/08/2004 (Agence Europe) - The United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs issued a press release on Tuesday explaining that the Sudanese government has bombed the south of Darfur again, and the attacks of Janjaweed militias against civilians were continuing in the three states of Darfur. In a report published on Tuesday, Empty Promises: Continuing Abuses in Darfur, Sudan, the organisation Human Rights Watch criticises the behaviour of the Sudanese government, particularly the incorporation of Janjaweed militia members in the armed forces and security forces which may be used to monitor protected areas for displaced persons. Bill Frist, leader of the Republican majority on the US Senate, said in Nairobi that was what going on in Darfur was genocide (disagreeing with the assessment of the recent EU mission, see yesterday's Europe, p.2, on the recent EU mission and Europe of 30 July, p.4, on similar accusations against the Sudanese authorities raised by MEPs during the hearing of Sudanese ambassador Ali Youssef Ahmid).
