Strasbourg, 22/07/2004 (Agence Europe) - Lon Wednesday the European Parliament elected five questateurs, after several problems had arisen causing a number of delays. The questateurs are responsible for administrative and financial issues involving the MEPs.
Six candidates were in the running, Finnish Liberal Anneli Jäätteenmäki was not re-elected.
Those elected in the first round, for which an absolute majority was required (338 votes) British Conservative James Nicholson, 389 votes, Polish Socialist Genowefa Grabowska, 366 vote. Elected in the third round by simple majority: Belgian Socialist Mia de Vits with 298 votes, Christian Democrat Godelieve Quisthoudt-Rowohl with 285 votes, Christian Democrat Astrid Lulling with 265 votes (candidacy of the latter was presented by a group of MEPs, while the president of the EPP-ED group Hans-Gert Pöttering had announced before the vote, without mentioning Ms Lulling, that his groups would only support the candidacies of Whitehead and Quisthoudt).
