25/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The OECD (Organisation for Cooperation and Economic development) is organising, together with the Turkish department of trade and industry on 3-5 June in Istanbul, a ministerial conference on SMEs and entrepeneurship. OECD Secretary General Donald Johnson and the minister of trade and industry for turkey Ali Coskun will be taking part in the meeting, which the press release indicates, follows an initial OECD conference in Bologna in 2000 where 48 countries adopted the Charter of Bologna on polices on SMEs. The communiqué cites several issues to tackle: whey are SMEs relatively under represented at an international level? What policies are needed to implement access to venture capital and reduce bureaucracy? How, in poor countries, can small companies be inserted into a global development plan?
