Brussels, 25/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - The International Movement ATD Fourth World set up in 1957 in a shanty town in the Parisian outskirts by Josep Wresinski has launched an appeal to candidates in the June European elections and all European cities to work for a European where every one has dignity and respect. Over the last fifty years important steps have been made for a fairer and more respectful Europe, asserts ATD fourth World, which also pointed out that in 2000 the EU adopted at the Lisbon Summit an then at Nice, a social inclusion strategy that co-ordinated action against exclusion and poverty. The organisation said that they believed that everyone should get a chance and that they were attempting to get to know each other and put their experience, knowledge and creativity at the service of everyone and that they would discover that as a result there would be wealthier and happier. "We deplore the fact that in all 25 European Union countries, children, young people and adults continue to live in unacceptable conditions…with insufficient incomes, lacking an education and proper training, unemployed and feeling useless, their aspiration to live as a family ignored…We believe that a more humane Europe is possible…the building of Europe is still ongoing. Contributing to this project will allow it to better reflect our aspirations. ATD Fourth World calls on future member of the European Parliament to make commitments to regular dialogue with people who are often ignored in the debates on the future of our societies; that organisation that creation the conditions for this dialogue are supported, that a European policy is supported that prioritises measures to guarantee access to all to fundamental rights and which contributes to "fighting against widespread poverty and exclusion,; that they join the European Fourth World Committee at the European Parliament Intergroup, which draws on the experience, knowledge and aspirations of the most excluded individuals and families living in poverty.
