19/05/2004 (Agence Europe) - Centro in Europa presided by former MEP Roberto Speciale (DS) organised in Genoa on 10 May, in cooperation with Infopoint Europe in Genoa and Armus (Archivio Museo della Stampa) whose curator is Francesco Pirella, a commemorative ceremony for Emanuele Gazzo, from Genoa, who founded Agence EUROPE. The ceremony marks the tenth anniversary of Gazzo's death (and more than fifty years since the Agency was created). On this occasion, Pier Virgilio Dastoli, Head of the European Commission's office in Rome, recalled his old friend, Gazzo, stressing how true he had remained to his ideas, his respect for the code of ethics, his intransigence and his ability to express indignation. Two people played a capital role in the life of Gazzo, - Spinelli and Jean Monnet - the former assistant to Altiero Spinelli said - - and Gazzo had in some ways assured synthesis between the federalist, Spinelli, and the functionalist, Monnet. A round table on the theme "Communicating Europe" was organised on this occasion with the participation of journalists Mario Bottaro, Renzo Parodi, Teresa Tacchella and Donatella Alfonso. Roberto Speciale also recalled that Genoa, the European Culture Capital (Ed.: with Lille), became on 1 May a cultural capital of a Union with 25 members. The ten new Member States were welcomed in Genoa during the different events there.
